2. How much will I receive if I am selected for the DUO award?
Each selected undergraduate student will be awarded 4,000 euros for one semester of exchange, which will include airfare, accommodation, living expenses, etc. |
|
| |
3. Is DUO application separate from SEP application?
Yes, NUS students must have applied and been selected for exchange by their faculty/school, before they can apply for the DUO. The DUO Award is not a separate exchange programme, but a form of financial aid for students going on SEP to a university in a European ASEM country. Thus, for an NUS student to be eligible for the DUO Awards, he/she has to be accepted as an Exchange Student by one of our partner universities.
Please refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/UG/sep_general.html for more information on the SEP (Student Exchange Programme) application process at NUS. You may apply for SEP only after you have completed one semester of studies at NUS, and you can only go on SEP after completing at least a year's study at NUS, depending on which faculty/school you are in. |
|
| |
4. Can postgraduate students apply for the DUO?
No, at the moment, NUS is not accepting DUO-Singapore applications from postgraduates. The DUO is a highly competitive award, which receives hundreds of applications for a limited number of awards each year. NUS utilises the DUO awards primarily for the undergraduate student exchange programme (SEP). |

| 6. When are the deadlines for SEP application and for the DUO?
NUS SEP applications for outgoing students are usually due in mid-January each year, so if you want to go on SEP in either Semester 1 or 2 of AY2009/2010 (i.e. leaving in July 2009 or January 2010), you should submit your application to your Dean's Office by January 2009. The exact deadlines for each faculty differ, and some faculties may take SEP applications twice each year. Please refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/iro/partners/index.html for more information on the university-wide SEP, including details on applications, and your faculty's/school’s website for information on faculty-level SEP.
The closing date for DUO application is 31 March 2009. |

7. The application form asks for "NAME OF HOST INSTITUTION". Does this mean that I can only choose one university from the list of universities that NUS is a partner of?
Your Host Institution, as stated in the DUO application form, will be the partner university that your faculty/school has assigned you to when they selected you for exchange. This university must be in an European ASEM country.

| |
8. In the application form, under the "CHOICE OF SUBJECTS", does NUS have any kind of brochure telling students about the subjects that are available at partner universities? I would like to enquire where I may get information on these subjects.
When you apply for SEP, you would have been asked to propose a Study Plan. You will need to get this Study Plan approved by your department. You may obtain details about possible modules to take while on SEP, from your host university’s website. Some prospectuses and information booklets are also available at the IRO library.
You are strongly encouraged to seek advice from your Department SEP Coordinator, about the subjects and modules which you can read at your host university. You may want to visit your faculty’s/school’s SEP website or your department’s office, for more information on whom to contact with regards to SEP matters.

11. I understand that the DUO awards will only be given to pairs of students coming from and going to the same universities on SEP. Must we therefore submit our applications together with a student from our host university?
No. You can simply submit your DUO application as an individual - you do not need to submit it together with a student from your host university. It is not the student’s responsibility to match the incoming and outgoing students to make the pair. NUS International Relations Office will see to the pairing of applications. |
|
| |
12. I have already applied for the SEP and got through the first round. I have just submitted the rest of my documents for the 2nd round which will be submitted to the partner University through NUS. When will I be able to apply for the DUO? Can I only apply for the DUO after I am accepted by the partner university?
You may apply for the DUO now, and should not wait for the acceptance from the partner university, since the DUO closing date is 31 March 2009. However, if you already have the acceptance letter from the partner university, it would be good to include it with your DUO application. |
