ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum
The ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF) is an annual event organized under the auspices of the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Aimed primarily at enhancing and strengthening mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among ASEAN youths, the Forum provides a platform for students from AUN member universities to showcase their cultures and traditions through music, song and dance. This is a unique opportunity for youths in the region, not only to gain a better appreciation of their cultural heritage and that of others, but also provide a means of promoting stronger cross-border interactions and ties.
NUS hosted the 8th ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum from 7 to 12 June 2010. Jointly organized by IRO and the NUS Centre for the Arts, the theme of the forum was “City, Technology, Tradition”. 91 participants from 16 AUN member universities, including 6 NUS staff and students, creatively crafted a repertoire of songs and dances based on the theme to showcase their diverse cultures and traditions at the Opening and Closing ceremonies. The ceremonies were graced by NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan, AUN Executive Director A/Prof Dr. Nantana Gajaseni and NUS Deputy President (Admin) Mr. Joseph Mullinex, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
