SEP- Bristol to NUS
Sophie Louise Johnson reflects on her time at NUS
Law, University of Bristol, UK, 2003-4
It's one of the best decisions I've ever made to come here, the teaching is excellent and completely different to the UK. I've been exposed to the 'world' from an Asian country's perspective - and I've probably learnt more in one semester at NUS than two years in Bristol - both academically and personally.
Also the range of electives offered have given me a chance to specialize in a way that I couldn't have at Bristol.
The best thing about NUS - well it has to be its location. So far this semester I've been to Bali, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia – I've learnt to surf, done 10 scuba dives and had a hell of a lot of fun shopping!!!!
Also from a student perspective you can have the ultimate night out in Singapore on Wednesdays as by bar hopping and taking advantage of all the drinks and entry offers it's easy to have a completely free night whilst getting quite merry!!!!
The bad things… I don't think there are many bad things, a lot of the things that I found strange at first I've come to like or laugh at now- i.e. the PGP rules that fine you if you are caught with a member of the opposite sex in your room with the door closed.
NUS has been a fantastic experience so far, I love the city, the food, the shopping! Although I do feel like a giant sometimes! The faculty is amazing (really friendly, and they even took us for lunch today!) and I've made some great friends from all over the world.
