Why Singapore? Rachel Atimes explains...
Rachel Alltimes, U of Edinburgh, UK, 2003-4
I am from Edinburgh University and I am one of the only British people from a Scottish university here in Singapore. I think that many of the British people have a very strange view about what it would mean to study in Singapore. Everyone that I spoke to said "Why Singapore?" - "Isn't that going to be really scary?" etc etc.
I love Singapore. I think that studying here has been an amazing experience so far. The opportunities to travel and experience a different culture are fantastic. The nightlife is so much better than I expected - something not emphasized at all. Female students would find 'ladies night' of interest - free entrance and free drinks all night!
The exchange students do not spend their entire time working - and if they do that is probably a reflection on their personality rather than anything else. Most of the exchange students have been on numerous trips to Malaysia and some have traveled to Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
As an exchange student you have the chance to meet people from all over the world - not just Singaporeans.
