Overseas Student Programme (OSP) Loan

Overseas Student Programme (OSP) loan is offered to all NUS undergraduates who are embarking on NUS approved overseas programmes. This loan is to help students cover their expenses during the course of the overseas stint. OCBC is the agency for this loan.

 
Eligibility Criteria
 
  • The student must be pursuing an undergraduate course and has obtained NUS’ approval to participate in the university-approved OSP;
  • The student must be a Singapore Citizen;
  • Each student is entitled to receive the OSP loan only once during his or her course of study. If the student has received an OSP loan before, he/she may apply for other forms of financial assistance provided by NUS; and
  • The student must not concurrently hold another loan, award, bursary or scholarship that covers the full cost of the OSP.
 
Requirements
 
  • A guarantor who is a Singapore citizen. He/she must be at least 21 years of age and shall not exceed 60 years of age. He/she cannot be a full-time student.
 
Loan Quantum
 

The minimum and maximum loan quantum is given in Table below. Applicants may borrow up to the maximum loan quantum, depending on the monthly per capita income of applicant’s family. The loan quantum should be sufficient to cover all of the following expenses.

 
  • Accommodation expenses;
  • Living expenses (food, transport, personal expenses, etc);
  • Airfare;
  • Books and supplies;
  • Medical health/ insurance; and
  • Immigration/administration fees

Application Process
 

Applicant is to fill up the Application Form which is found here.

Together with the Application Form, student has to submit a copy of each of the following*:

 
  • Letter of approval for SEP from Registrar’s Office/ Faculty or letter of approval for OSP from Faculty/ International Relations Office
  • Acceptance letter from Partner University (compulsory if you are going for Student Exchange Programme)
  • Student’s and guarantor’s NRIC
  • Income tax statement from a year before or pay slip for all working individuals in your family
    *Please take note that your application will not be considered if the above-stated documents are not submitted.


The Application Form and required documents are to be submitted at least 2 months before departing for the OSP.

Applicant can submit the completed Application Form and documents at IRO Office directly. Alternatively, applicant can drop the Application Form in the form submission box designated for IRO at Student Services Centre (SSC).

IRO will inform student on the application results.

Repayment
 

Maximum repayment period for the OSP loan is 5 years. Interest computation is deferred until after graduation. Thereafter, the average prime rate of DBS, OCBC and UOB applies, prevailing on the first day of each quarter.  The interest will be accrued on a monthly basis.

Repayment can be in one lump sum or in fixed equal monthly installments of minimum S$100 per month, commencing not later than 2 years after graduation or upon securing employment, whichever is earlier.
