National University of Singapore will host the 4th APRU Undergraduate Summer Program 2009 for a period of two weeks, from July 13 to 24, 2009. Centered on the theme “Rising to the Challenge – Global Leadership in the 21st Century,” the program targets undergraduate students who:
hold leadership positions at their home university;
want to better understand leadership and its approaches to pressing global issues
are interested to see how student leadership can impact global issues and global change;
want to be change agents to pressing global issues; and
would like engage other student leaders from the Pacific Rim
Seminars and forums will be conducted in English and allow students to hear from professors and industry experts in Singapore with the opportunity to engage them in discussions and questions and answer. Topics covered will include climate change & sustainable development, effective governance, public health, technology, social entrepreneurship, faith & globalization, the global economic crisis, and leadership.
Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities conducted outside the classroom such as leadership simulations, visits to leading Singapore institutions, and explore Singapore’s unique history as an Asian city-state. Social activities will include an introduction to the Malay Archipelago martial art of Silat, explore the diversity of Singapore culture through its Chinatown, Little India, and Arab Street precincts, and field trips to places of interest such as the National Museum of Singapore, the famous Night Safari, and an opportunity to view the regions biodiversity on the island Pulau Ubin.
