Director's Message

The NUS International Relations Office (IRO) forges partnerships with premier institutions around the world to enhance NUS’ standing as a world-class institution. In tandem with NUS' vision of becoming a global knowledge enterprise, IRO (established in 1996) has developed deep international engagements with many peer institutions and fostered interactions and collaborations in education, research and technology that benefit our students, staff and stakeholders. Our partners are higher education leaders from all over the world, from whom we imbibe international standards and best practices in order to foster a sustained culture of excellence on our own campus.

We are pleased to be working actively with more than 200 partner universities to provide exciting exchange programmmes for our students in our mission for globalization and thereby helping to mould global citizens among our youth. Besides the Student Exchange Programme (SEP), IRO also works with NUS faculties and schools on other overseas attachments including summer schools, study visitations, research exchanges, industrial attachments, administrative staff exchanges, and international conferences.

We continue to participate keenly in strategic university consortia and alliances, including the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and Universitas 21 (U21). These networks allow for enriching exchanges in ideas, deeper dialogues and productive collaborative actions.

We support and provide national programmes for Singapore ministries and agencies and give input on strategic opportunities for participation and collaboration in global higher education.

With our core values firmly in place, we strive to provide dedicated services and programmes for the NUS community, be integral to NUS’ strategic thrusts and be a leader in university international relations. We will continue to provide more synchronized services and better communications with our partners, as well as with our own faculties and departments.

We want to be your key to the world, and the link for the world to come to us! The IRO Spark is here - helping you to help us in our global knowledge enterprise. Please feel free to contact us at any time!
