The NUS Identity

Domain Name Policy

The rationale for drawing up guidelines for the assignment and use of domain names within NUS include:

  • To ensure a degree of consistency in usage, in keeping with promoting and protecting the University's image
  • To maximize opportunities for both the external and the internal community to identify a NUS domain or website easily and correctly
  • To provide a basis for resolving any disputes that may arise
  • To facilitate the management of the domain space within the University website.

The basic principle underlying the domain names policy guidelines is that the naming conventions adopted should reflect a coherent system and to some extent, NUS' organizational structure.

For the purposes of the NUS website, there are three categories of web addresses (or URLs)

  • Standard NUS Web Addresses
  • Custom NUS Web Addresses
  • Non-NUS Web Addresses
