NUS welcome students from partner universities to experience academic experience and student life in NUS. We recognise that some students may need financial assistance to participate in NUS academic programmes. Listed below are funding available for incoming international students to apply.

Awards & Scholarships Application Information

Tan Mingwei Global Community Service Grant

This grant was created in memory of the late Ms Tan Mingwei, who was a medical student at Cambridge University. It promotes the carrying out of meaningful community work in developing countries, just like what Mingwei actively pursued and was transformed by the experience gained through the projects. The grant partially aids successful applicants financially in their global community service engagements.

For projects between May and October, by 15 April.

For projects between November and April, by 15 October.

DUO Singapore Exchange Fellowship Awards

The award is for incoming exchange students from the European Union for one semester or one year of studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Please apply from 1 March to 5 April 2019.

NUS-UBC Lee Foundation Student Exchange Award

This award was created in 2003 through a generous donation from the Lee Foundation to help fund University of British Columbia (UBC) students to come on exchange to NUS. The Lee Foundation promotes active participation in educational endeavours when one is overseas on student exchange programmes. This award affirms the strong ties between NUS and UBC.

Research Scholarship for Italian Citizens (CSTC, Italy - Singapore)

In conjunction with the Executive Programme on Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Singapore and Italy, students of Italian origin can apply for the NUS Research Scholarship for Italian Citizens to pursue graduate studies by research at the master level at NUS.

Temasek Foundation International Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (TFI LEaRN) Programme @ NUS

With the aim to groom the leader in you, the TF International LEaRN Programme @ NUS nurtures the next generation of Asian leaders by providing opportunities for cultural exchange, networking, community engagement and leadership development. Students will receive S$6,500 during their exchange in NUS.

The application is by invitation only.

US-Singapore Summer Exchange Scholarship Programme

The US-Singapore Summer Exchange Scholarship Programme commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the US in 2016. Jointly funded by the Government of Singapore and selected US companies and organisations, the Scholarship Programme will promote greater interaction and mutual understanding between the next generation of Singaporeans and Americans, by allowing recipients to attend a university summer programme in each other’s countries.

NUS Awards for Study Abroad – NASA Degree Scholarship (Singaporeans)

The NASA Degree Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to undergraduate students who are on selected Joint, Double or Concurrent Degree Programmes with overseas universities.

Please approach your Faculty/School administering your specific Joint, Double or Concurrent Degree Programme.

Awards & Scholarships Application Information

Baden-Württemberg Scholarship, Germany

The non-profit Landesstiftung foundation was formed from the Landesbeteiligungen Baden-Württemberg GmbH. It fosters charitable projects aimed at promoting the future potential of Baden-Württemberg. The Baden-Württemberg scholarship is offered to selected NUS students who are going to any university in the German State of Baden-Württemberg on student exchange. Its aim is to promote the international exchange of qualified German and non-German students. Selected students will receive scholarship for a minimum of four months and up to a maximum of 11 months ranging from €400 to €800 per month.

Chinese University Study Award

The Chinese University Study Award (CUSA) is set up to encourage NUS students to go on exchange to the C9 League of Universities (Fudan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanjing University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University) in China. This is a merit-based award. 12 awards valued at S$3,000 each are available each year.

Please apply from 14 March to 30 June 2019.

DUO Singapore Exchange Fellowship Awards

The award is for NUS undergraduate students from ASEAN-member countries bound for student exchange programmes at universities in the European Union. The award aims to promote student exchanges between European and Asian ASEM member countries. A total of three successful applicants are awarded €4,000 each annually.

Please apply from 1 March to 5 April 2019.

ETH Zurich Student Exchange Award

ETH Zurich offers a monthly award of CHF1,500 (up to 4 months) to one exchange student per semester from selected partners such as NUS. The award can also be split between students, for example: for two students of CHF750 each for 4 months.

All NUS students selected for SEP to ETH Zurich would be considered for the scholarship. ETH Zurich follows up with students selected for the award to inform them about the further procedure only after arrival at ETH Zurich.

Fulbright Association (Singapore) Student Exchange Award

The prestigious award promotes the ideals of Senator William Fulbright’s vision of a world where the ideals of mutual understanding and respect are upheld. One award is available annually for a NUS student bound for a Student Exchange Programme (SEP) at a United States partner university.

Please apply by 28 February 2018.

Global KU Scholarship, Korea University

Korea University (KU) offers this scholarship in celebration of its centennial in 2005 with the aim to encourage future global leaders to study at KU. New exchange students will be considered for the admission scholarship (valued up to ₩1,600,000) for the first semester or KU Travel Scholarship (valued up to ₩1,500,000) for the first semester. NUS students selected for SEP to KU can apply online directly with KU.

Please apply by 30 January for Spring Semester (March - June).

Please apply by 30 July for Fall Semester (September - December).

Jacob Phang Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is funded by the Jacob Phang family in memory of Professor Jacob Phang, who was one of Singapore's pioneering academic-technopreneurs. This scholarship is only opened to Electrical and Computer Engineering students who are going on student exchange programmes. Two scholarships are available annually.

Please apply through the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.

JASSO Scholarship, Japan

The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers scholarships to qualified international students accepted by Japanese Universities under the student exchange agreement. The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of JP¥80,000 per month, subject to change depending on their yearly financial budget. NUS students selected for SEP to Japan can apply for the scholarship through their host university during their exchange application.

NUS Awards for Study Abroad – NASA Exchange Scholarship

NASA Exchange Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to undergraduate students who are on overseas Student Exchange Programme (SEP).

Please apply during the application period

-1 February to 31 May for Semester 1 and Full Year SEP

-1 July to 31 October for Semester 2 SEP

NUS in Asia SEP Award

The NUS in Asia SEP Award was created through a generous donation from Mr Hoong Yik Luen, an NUS alumnus, to encourage students to participate in SEP to China. The award is open to SEP students to all partner universities in China. A total of 8 awards valued at S$6,000 each will be given to successful applicants with good academic standing and demonstrate strong leadership qualities through active involvement in campus or external activities in each academic year.

Not available from AY2019/20 onwards.

NUS-UBC Lee Foundation Student Exchange Award

The award was created in 2003 through a generous donation from the Lee Foundation to help fund and support NUS students on exchange to The University of British Columbia (UBC). The Lee Foundation promotes active participation in educational endeavours when one is overseas on student exchange programmes. This award affirms the strong ties between NUS and UBC.

Please apply through your faculty from 20 February to 30 March 2018.

With the aim to groom the leader in you, the TF International LEaRN Programme @ NUS nurtures the next generation of Asian leaders by providing opportunities for cultural exchange, networking, community engagement and leadership development.

Students receive between S$5,000 and S$7,000 in Semester 1 or Semester 2:

Under the Student Exchange Programme to partner universities in Southeast Asia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan; Or

Under the NUS Overseas Colleges programme to Asia.

Universitas 21 (U21) Scholarship, Korea University

Korea University provides scholarships to exchange students from partner universities under the U21 international network, including NUS. Application for the scholarship is not required as all NUS students admitted for SEP to Korea University will be automatically provided with ₩250,000 per semester.

Young Talent Programme - Market Immersion funding from IE Singapore

NUS undergraduates who are awarded funding from NUS for participating in selected international programmes (eg Student Exchange Programme (SEP), internship/industrial attachment programme, hybrid work and study programme, and short term programme are eligible for co-funding from International Enterprise (IE) Singapore under the Young Talent Programme (YTP) - Market Immersion.

Please apply at least 4 weeks through your programme administrator before programme starts.

China Initiatives Steering Committee (CISC) Funding

Funding is available for Singaporean/PR students who are participating in internships, hybrid work and study programmes, research attachments, short-term study programmes (such as international summer programmes), or Study Trips for Engagement and Enrichment (STEER) programmes in China.

Please apply at least 4 weeks before programme starts.

Italian Government Scholarships For NUS students

The Italian Government offers scholarships to Singapore citizens who are current NUS graduate students to pursue academic or student exchanges, research programmes and graduate studies at approved Italian universities. Several awards are available annually.

Please apply from March 2017 - April 2017.

Language Immersion Awards

The Language Immersion Awards are managed by the Centre for Language Studies as from AY2015/16. These awards provide for immersive academic and cultural experiences in France or Germany, thereby nurturing the awardees’ interests to pursue further academic endeavors in these two countries.

Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange (SSUE) Programme Award

The award is for NUS undergraduate students who participate in the Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange (SSUE) Programme. The award aims to help offset students’ travel and living expenses for the programme.

Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment (STEER) Programme Award

The award is for NUS undergraduate students who participate in the Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment programmes. The award aims to help offset students’ travel and living expenses for the programme.
