The Development and Implementation of a National Health Security Strategy

Recent public health disasters (and near disasters) have increased awareness among public health policy makers worldwide of the need to develop a robust health security strategy. Dr. Wasserman leads a multi-year project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services devoted to developing and implementing such a strategy in the U.S. His talk will cover some of the challenges and opportunities associated with this work. After providing a definition of national health security and a framework for conceptualizing the critical elements of health security, particular emphasis will be given to lessons learned for other nations and the need for a global health security strategy.
Workshop on the Lancet Series on Health in Southeast Asia

The Lancet Series on Health in Southeast Asia, jointly sponsored by the China Medical Board (CMB), the Rockefeller Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies was launched in January 2011 in Bangkok at the Prince Mahidol Conference.

This workshop is jointly organized by the NUS Initiative to Improve Health in Asia (NIHA) and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy to discuss and disseminate the findings of the Lancet Series. It will feature presentations by the lead authors on their findings followed by a panel discussion on future steps. It hopes to encourage further research into the health challenges and policy issues thus identified.

The workshop is open to policy makers and representatives from government, industry and academic organizations, international development and research institutions, and the media.
