The NUS Initiative to Improve Health in Asia (NIHA) had its first grant call exercise in January 2011.

Twenty-one proposals were shortlisted and the researchers were invited to give a presentation to a panel of expert reviewers at a NIHA workshop in June 2011, following which eleven grants were awarded.
