| After a broad critical overview of the main achievements and failures in the two giant economies, the lecture reflected on the general and contrasting features of capitalism as it is developing in the two countries, on the political economy of the governance process in the context of the complex relationship between democracy (or lack of it) and development, and the nature of accountability failures in both countries. |
