The Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary research center. Founded by Professors Elinor and Vincent Ostrom in 1973, the Workshop has brought together economists, political scientists, ecologists, mathematicians, game theorists, modelers, engineers, activists, Nobel Laureates and countless graduate students from all over the world. Their research projects include field work in the irrigation paddies of Nepal and the Philippines, forestry in Latin America, Thailand and India, wildlife in Africa, urban studies, river basin and ground water in the United States, housing and rural development in China, water boards in Netherlands, among others. The research methodology they employ includes agent based modeling, laboratory and field experiments, meta-analyses, anthropological and overtime studies and large scale cross section and multi-country research.

What can NUS learn from such a multidisciplinary research center? At this discussion, Prof. Ostrom shared her thoughts and experience in organizing and maintaining the productivity, sustainability and impact of such a multidisciplinary research program.
