Abstract
The session will discuss the rising incidence of Type 2 diabetes in Asia and the crippling financial burden it imposes on individuals, societies and health systems; and the threat of emerging infectious diseases (EID)and viral pandemics. Recent research has focused on setting up early warning indicators of EID risk and preparations for outbreaks. Densely populated urban environments have been breeding grounds and also facilitate transmission.
