Global students add greatly to the diversity of the NUS community and help create
a global learning environment.
As part of its global strategy, NUS has and will continue to develop a variety of
global programmes such as student exchange programmes, summer programmes, joint- and
double-degree programmes to draw high quality students from around the world
to study here. NUS constantly identifies key sources for recruitment of both undergraduate
and graduate students from a diverse range of countries, deploying targeted approaches
that recognise different strengths in different countries.
NUS ensures that these students have a positive global experience at NUS through
strong pastoral care and integration programmes. The International Student Services
(ISS), a division within the NUS Office of Student Affairs, provides a wide range
of services to the international and exchange students who study at NUS. Assistance
and support are provided throughout the students' course of study to help them adjust
to living in Singapore and studying in NUS. Some of the key services and programmes
include "Pre-Arrival Services and Orientation Sessions", "Host Family Programme"
and "Cross-Cultural Awareness Programmes". The International Relations Office also
organises welcome and farewell parties for inbound exchange students in order for
them to form friendships with students from other universities and meet with their
Peer Advisers.
