STEER Middle East 2010
|
|
As part of the STEER Middle-East programme, the students visited government bodies,
private companies, universities in Saudi Arabia and participated in a business forum
with Emirati entrepreneurs that was jointly organised by Zayed University in Abu
Dhabi, UAE. They were also hosted to a networking dinner with Singaporeans based
in UAE by the Singapore Charge d'Affaires.
|
The students were wowed by the major sights such as the Burj
Khalifa, the Gold Souk and Palm Jumeriah in Dubai, and the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque,
Yas Marina Circuit Formula One, and the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
They also collaborated with both King Fahd University of Petroleum
and Minerals and Zayed University to jointly research on the economic policies and
strategies of Singapore and Saudi Arabia and the UAE respectively. These findings
were presented at the respective universities' campuses during the STEER programme.
The NUS undergraduates had an engaging time interacting with their hospitable peers
from the two universities, striking-up conversations about each others' cultures,
educational experiences and hopes for the future.
"Go for it. You will get
to know of the many business opportunities in the Middle-East. The networking sessions
are useful as they help create a link between you and the Middle-East. It (STEER)
is learning beyond the classroom, where the classroom is the world itself"
Tay Yew Ming
