A
warm welcome to "NUS Global" – a gateway to the extensive and myriad global programmes that NUS offers through our strategic collaborations with valued partners around the world.
As a leading global university, NUS offers a strongly enabling environment for our faculty to collaborate with the best around the world, and endeavours to provide thought leadership on issues of critical importance to the world and to Asia.
We also seek to provide a transformative global education that nurtures graduates who are well prepared to contribute and succeed in a complex globalised world. We do this by "bringing the world to NUS" and "bringing NUS students to the world".
In bringing the world to NUS, we have consciously created a diverse environment on the NUS campus in Singapore. Our 37,000 students hail from 100 countries and our talented faculty are drawn from Singapore and the best centres around the world, enabling our students to gain valuable cross-cultural perspectives. NUS students have access to lively and dynamic hubs on campus, such as University Town, with interlaced spaces for learning, living, arts, culture, sports and social activities, providing opportunities for students from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds to interact, learn together and develop friendships.
In parallel, we also bring NUS students to the world. Through our global programmes, more than 60% of our undergraduates have an overseas educational experience, with nearly 30% spending a semester or more abroad. NUS offers unique and stimulating programmes for students with different interests and strengths, such as the NUS Overseas Colleges for budding entrepreneurs, STEER programmes to expose students to emerging economies, student exchange and research attachments for those with interest in academic pursuits, and international internships to prepare students for work in cross-cultural settings. As we strive to achieve even more ambitious plans and targets over the next few years, we will continue to seek ways to differentiate ourselves and bring value to our students by being a gateway and bridge to high quality programmes around the world.
In research, we strive to create impact by advancing knowledge at the leading edge. For example, NUS’ Research Centres of Excellence in Quantum Technology, Cancer Science and Mechanobiology respectively, as well as new research programmes in fields ranging from graphene to real estate finance, have put NUS on the world map. At the same time, we are working hard to make significant contributions to understanding and addressing complex global challenges in critical areas such as population ageing, human health, sustainable urbanization and finance and risk management. These efforts are being led by NUS’ five Integrative Research Clusters that bring together top researchers from across disciplines to focus on such large-scale research questions of critical importance to the world and to Asia.
As a global university, NUS also plays an active role in international networks and alliances such as the International Alliance of Research Universities, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, Universitas 21 and the ASEAN Universities Network. As a key thought leader in global higher education in Asia, NUS has also launched programmes such as the Programme for Leadership in University Management (PLUM) and the China-India-Singapore Dialogue on Higher Education to facilitate regional sharing of knowledge, exchange of views, and discussion of emerging issues on higher education development, planning and management.
From a modest medical school founded in 1905 with just 23 students, I am pleased that NUS is now a respected global institution, consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. I am grateful to our talented students, faculty and staff who have been unrelenting in their pursuit of excellence, and to our strategic partners who have worked so well with us.
I hope this website will provide you with a good overview of the wide range of initiatives and programmes, as well as a sense of the many opportunities for synergistic collaborations.
