When you make a gift to NUS, you can decide what you would like your gift to support. Your gift support area would be mutually agreed between you and the University.

All gifts to the University are used according to the intent of the donor. So every dollar of your gift goes towards the cause of your choice. Any gift-related administration costs are currently provided for from the University’s annual operating budget.

Unrestricted gifts to NUS offer the greatest flexibility in channeling resources to the areas of greatest need in the University.

If you would like to support a particular cause, you could make a restricted gift to areas such as: student aid which includes bursaries, scholarships and student programmes; teaching excellence which includes professorships; campus renewal; and research activities.

If you make an endowed gift, we preserve the principal amount and invest it to provide returns that will support the gift purpose. If you make an expendable (non-endowed) gift, the entire amount will be spent on the gift purpose and will eventually be exhausted.

In recognition of your gift, the University may offer you mutually agreed naming opportunities.

The NUS Endowment Fund

A gift to the NUS Endowment Fund is truly special because it is a gift that keeps on giving. It generates an income, year after year, that is channelled to the areas of the University’s greatest need. So the more you give, the more the Fund grows and the more income is generated for the University’s needs.

Faculties and schools

Private gifts help sustain the many programmes and activities at the 14 faculties and schools at NUS as well as at its centres and institutes. These gifts have gone towards professorships, scholarships and bursaries and enabling world-class research.

If you are an alumnus, a gift to your faculty or school is a great way to show your support and affiliation to your alma mater.

Your gift might be what it takes to help NUS make the leap from a good to a great university.

Students

Whether you choose to support bursaries that help financially needy students; or scholarships that reward the work of outstanding students and encourage them to excel still higher; or programmes that challenge students to go beyond the classroom, your gift has an impact on the most important people at NUS – our students.

With a minimum gift of S$45,000, you can also choose to create a new bursary or scholarship for students in a particular academic discipline, of a particular year or from a particular background.

Teaching excellence

A world-class faculty is the beating heart of a world-class university. As gifted educators, the men and women who teach at NUS ready fresh generations to serve the world inside and outside the walls of academia.

Your gift can help support teaching excellence in a variety of ways. First and foremost, NUS can use your gifts to further our teaching mission where need is the strongest.

Or you can give to designated faculty scholarships, fellowships and professorships. These support the work of outstanding faculty, significantly advancing their work as teachers, scholars, researchers, and clinicians.

Campus renewal

A leading university is distinguished by the conducive learning environment it provides for its students and faculty. Spaces such as lecture theatres, classrooms and laboratories, as well as teaching and research equipment need to be continuously renewed, revitalised and expanded.

Private gifts have helped us achieve excellence in our buildings, facilities and environment. Thanks to our donors, students, researchers and faculty enjoy the latest, cutting-edge facilities which also inspire brilliance through their design.

Research excellence

Discoveries and breakthroughs made at NUS have an impact around the world. The University's brilliant researchers make important contributions to economic progress and productivity. Your gifts can help forward our existing research talent and strengths in areas such as in:

  • Biomedical and Life Sciences
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering
  • Humanities and Social Sciences, with a focus on Asian issues
