Cho Oyu Expedition Update: 16-28th August 2004
Singapore – Kathmandu, 16th August 2004:
The team arrived at Changi Airport in the wee hours of the morning to catch their flight to Kathmandu, Nepal. It was a small but warm sendoff attended by family and friends.
Kathmandu, 17-18th August 2004:
The team spent two days in the city of Kathmandu sorting through official matters such as logistics and visas, also finding time to visit the famous Swayabhunath temple.
Kathmandu – Cho Oyu BC, 19-24th August 2004:
Along the friendship highway linking Kathmandu to Lhasa, we traveled overland into Tibet towards Cho Oyu base camp. Along the way, we overnighted in the villages of Nyalam and Tingri, also doing some acclimatization hikes in the surrounding hills.
Cho Oyu BC, 25-26th August 2004:
At Cho Oyu base camp, the entry point for teams aspiring to climb Cho Oyu, we spent our time at base camp, hiking up the surrounding hills for acclimatization, sorting through gear for the trip up to advanced base camp and revising rope skills necessary for the climb.
Cho Oyu BC – Cho Oyu ABC, 27-28th August 2004:
It was a pleasant two day hike from base camp to advanced base camp,with striking views of Cho Oyu along the way. Our gear was concurrently ferried up using a caravan of yaks, big docile creatures with interesting personalities of their own.
