Centennial Everest Expedition
| Latest Update: NUS team summits Everest! More... |
The most exciting phase of their quest has begun. The Centennial Everest Expedition after a rousing sendoff departs on March 14 for the world's highest peak. The team, comprising NUS faculty, alumni and student, is expected to summit the middle of May and return in June to herald in the NUS Centennial Celebrations. Expedition member Ernest Quah said of their quest: "It's a pursuit of excellence, and I hope it will be an inspiration to the rest of the NUS community and Singapore at large."
Their quest really begun more than two years ago, when they started training for the climb. As NUS President Professor Shih Choon Fong said at the sendoff: "The journey up Mt Everest is just a beginning. But the journey for every member of the expedition started much earlier. Each of them either consciously or sub-consciously arrived at a point in his life when he knew he wanted to move out of his comfort zone, go beyond the tried and tested route, push the boundaries and break personal barriers. And we would like to think that the NUS environment helped to nurture that spirit."
