The Business Times and OCBC Bank first launched the inaugural Emerging Enterprise Award in 2008 to recognise outstanding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore. Winners of the Emerging Enterprise receive attractive prizes to support their growth and development. The Emerging Enterprise marks a first in the SME industry for being an award that reaches out to smaller businesses.

Jointly presented by The Business Times and OCBC Bank, supported by RSM Chio Lim, SPRING Singapore, NUS Extension, ACORN Marketing & Research Consultants and SingTel, the Emerging Enterprise 2012 Award honours enterprising SMEs with the drive to make waves on the entrepreneurial stage. Apart from the attractive prizes, the Emerging Enterprise 2012 Award offers invaluable recognition for those with the passion to succeed.

This year, up to 3 top SMEs will each receive S$150,000 interest-free loan, S$90,000 worth of professional services and training programmes, and support from SPRING Singapore in capability development.

In addition, 2 finalists will each win a “Best Innovation Award”, comprising S$30,000 worth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) prizes from SingTel.

About the CEO: Mr. Kenny Yap is the Executive Chairman and Group CEO of Qian Hu Corporation Limited, the only integrated ornamental fish service provider listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange.

Through his leadership, vision and passion for the industry, Kenny plays a key role in establishing Singapore as the Ornamental Fish Capital of the World, with Qian Hu accounting for more than 5% of the global fish market. He has a string of awards to his name - Public Service Award (PBM) in 2004, Ernst & Young's Service Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2003, Young Chinese Entrepreneur of the Year by Yazhou Zhoukan in 2002, one of the 50 Stars of Asia by Business Week in 2001, the PSB/International Institute of Management's International Management Action Award in 2000, and the Singapore National Youth Award in 1998.

In 2008, he was named one of the Top 10 Outstanding Entrepreneurs by China Education Television, Beijing Municipal Administrations of Cultural Heritage, Fortune Times, Phoenix Satellite and several other organisations in China.

He currently serves as the Chairman for the Ornamental Fish Business Cluster initiated by AVA and is a member of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE). In 2007, Kenny was appointed by National Youth Council as the Chairman of the Youth Award (Entrepreneurship) Committee. He also serves as a council member of the Corporate Governance Council with effect from 1 February 2010.
