About the Programme

iLead (innovative Local Enterprise Achiever Development) offers NUS students an opportunity to intern at innovative companies and be exposed to the entrepreneurial challenges in Singapore.

Programme Objectives:

  • Cultivate entrepreneurial mindset
  • Develop leadership & management skills
  • Gain insight into the working of the business world
  • Provide opportunities to learn from entrepreneurial leaders.

  2 weeks overseas study mission

 

Structure includes:

  • Three months (May to July) of full-time employment
  • One semester (January-April or August-November) of full-time employment with time-off to take courses at NUS
  • 2-week overseas study mission at the end of attachment period. The first two study missions were to the Silicon Valley, USA.


At the end of the internship programme, students will be required to submit 2 reports:

  • Internship Programme Report based on their work and experience gained
  • Start-up Business Case which focuses on the start-up process and/or major challenges and issue faced by the company.

Internships-16 MCs

TR3102 Internship Program Report (8 MCs)

  • Students to submit report on their work and experience gained
  • Reviewed and graded by consulting professors (recruited by NEC and approved by Biz School)
  • A report on the study mission

TR3103 Startup Business Case (8 MCs)

  • Case focuses on start-up process and/or major challenges and issues faced by the company
  • Appointed professors to supervise students on case writing
  • Students will be required to make presentation of their case studies to CEOs and/or Senior Management of their Internship Companies and/or other relevant academic staff

TR Courses-4 MCs

TR2201 Entrepreneurial Marketing (4 MCs)

  • Equips students with marketing skills needed to launch and lead high-growth, high-tech venture
  • Cultivates entrepreneurial leadership and teamwork skills


TR2202: Technological innovation (4 MCs)

  • Build a strong conceptual foundation for understanding technological innovation
  • Transforming innovative ideas into a marketable product or service
  • Concepts are brought to life using case studies, videos and guest speakers
TR3001: New Product Development (4 MCs)
  • Equips students with the necessary skill set involved in new product development
  • Ability to develop efficient mechanism for generating new product ideas
TR3002 New Venture Creation (4 MCs)
  • Provides multi-disciplined overview high technology entrepreneurial activities
  • Studies management of new venture development
  • Helps students in their personal evaluation of their own skills, talents and career potential
The students would be placed in companies:

  • That are innovative, knowledge-intensive and/or high tech oriented, and have demonstrated potential for growth and global expansion
  • Whose CEOs/Presidents or senior management are able to provide mentoring and guidance
  • That are able to provide time-off for students to attend classes/exams during the semester(up to 2 modules)

The nature of internship may be technical or business focused, depending on the requirements of the companies and students' area of interest/specialisation. Students will be paid an allowance during the internship period.

Application

iLead is open to *all NUS students who are motivated and have a strong interest in entrepreneurship and related activities, irrespective of their area of specialisation.

The closing date for the Jan 2010 intake (5th batch) will be on 14 Sep 2009.
