Ideapolis 2004 is jointly organized by South West Community Development Council (SWCDC), National University of Singapore and NTU Student Initiatives' for Technopreneurship (SIFT) to inspire our youths and kindle their interest in entrepreneurship.
The program objective is to meet SW CDC requirements of a year long program targeted at participants aged 15 - 24 years old. The endgame for this program is to witness the actual start-up of business operations, led by a select group of youths, at The Village Program (TVP), when it is launched in 1Q05.
Start-Up@Singapore and NUS Entrepreneurship Centre have been invited to join Southwest CDC as a strategic partner and co-organizer in this program. The involvement takes place at 2 levels: Start-Up@Singapore and Pay-It-Forward Mentoring.
The level of involvement from NUS students is expected in:
- Mentoring of pre-tertiary student participants
- Facilitation of Jun 04 Business Plan Workshop

PHASE 1 - ELEVATOR PITCH COMPETITION (8 - 9 MAY 2004, FRI, 14 MAY 2004 - PRESENTATION)
Registered youths will participate in a 2-day program where they will be presented the TVP project and challenged to generate a well-defined business concept arising from TVP. Over a dinner event attended by qualified judges, the youths will be placed on the firing line where they will make their pitches. The judges will select a group of viable business concepts and teams, which will be taken to the next phase.
PHASE 2 - BUSINESS PLAN WORKSHOP ( 16 - 19 JUNE 2004, 16 SEPTEMBER 2004 - PRESENTATION)
This will be a 4-day intensive workshop targeted at developing key entrepreneurial competencies and 'fire-proofing' their business concepts. The youths will be presented with opportunities to make presentations to potential financiers, resource providers and corporate partners during this phase. Their goal will be to secure the necessary support and funding that is required for their venture to start.
PHASE 3 - COMMENCE BUSINESS OPERATIONS AT TVP (3Q05)
Teams will implement their business plans and put it through the market test.
As a supporting organization of Ideapolis 2004, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre (NEC) is looking for 8 - 10 NUS students to join the programme as
1) Student Mentor or Advisor (5-8 student mentor/advisor)
- I nvolvement will be during the Elevator Pitch Competition on 8-9 May, Business Plan Workshop in 3 rd week of June, as well as other ad-hoc mentoring sessions where NUS student mentors will meet with the pre-tertiary students team on dates feasible for both parties.
- Depending on our students schedules and availability, the ad-hoc mentoring sessions can be flexible in terms of frequency and timing, but the idea is for our student mentors to have quality time with the pre-tertiary students to discuss and help with refining the business plans.
2) Working Committee of Jun 04 Business Plan Workshop ( 5-8 student mentor/advisor)
- Organize the 16-19 Jun Workshop with SW CDC and The Young Entrepreneurs Mastery (TYEM), which is engaged to run the Ideapolis 2004
- Level of involvement includes liaison with student teams, entrepreneurs and agencies; publicity & media relations; budgeting and funding; event logistics, etc.
We would encourage students to take on both roles (1) & (2) if they want to gain more exposures in Ideapolis 2004. The students and student organizations support will be acknowledged by SWCDC and also NEC.
