Other events in Oct/Nov
Initiated by INTRO, and co-organised with Office of Life Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Exploit Technologies, the focus of this Roundtable will be on collaboration and commercialization opportunities.
There are a growing number of researchers in Singapore working on different aspects of stem cell research. INTRO felt that it was therefore a good time to bring together interested members of the stem cell research community to share their research as well as explore any collaborative or commercial opportunities.
This Roundtable is an informal session involving staff from both NUS (primarily researchers from the Faculty of Medicine) and A*STAR, and will broadly include short presentations by each research group on their current research, as well as informal discussions.
Oct 28: Visit to NUS by the RACE Advisory Panel
RACE (Research and Commercialisation Endeavours) is an EDB initiative directed at accelerating the process of research to commercialisation, with the ultimate aim to create new industries from the discoveries and inventions of Singapore’s research community.
The RACE Advisory Panel’s visit to NUS is organised by INTRO. Panel members will be given presentations on the NUS Enterprise Ecosystem, technology transfer in NUS and the research directions of NUS. They will also be presented with information on a few NUS technologies and start-up companies before they sit down to lunch hosted by the President, NUS, Prof Shih Choon Fong.
In conjunction with the APRU activities of this period, INTRO is hosting a dinner on Oct 31 for the APRU technology transfer professionals who will be in Singapore during this time.
The dinner aims will provide networking opportunities between the NUS Enterprise Divisions (including INTRO) and the various APRU Universities. It will also give our foreign guests a taste of Singapore. The dinner will be held at the Night Safari, after which guests will enjoy a tour to view the Singapore Zoo’s nocturnal animals.
Nov 24: Hydrogen-related Technologies Roundtable
Initiated by NUS and in partnership with NTU and A*Star, this Roundtable discussion will take place in the INTRO Conference Room. Hydrogen is an alternative fuel source that has the potential to change our world.
INTRO decided to organize the discussion as different aspects of hydrogen-related research are currently being carried out by the different institutions. There is also growing public awareness of the importance of alternative, clean fuel sources and their applications globally, as well as in Singapore. Major players like Daimler-Chrysler and BP, among others, are investing heavily in these avenues of research to prepare for the almost inevitable switch from pollutive to clean fuels.
The objective is for all researchers in this area to know what each is doing, and in knowing to be able to spark ideas on accelerating research through joint projects or other avenues, including cooperation in commercialization.
