Through its Industry Liaison Office (ILO), NUS Enterprise facilitates the University’s drive for industry engagement and partnerships. ILO promotes industry collaboration, technology transfer and commercialisation of the University's intellectual assets and expertise. It manages and protects the University's intellectual property and promotes collaboration between NUS and industry, by helping to facilitate the translation of new discoveries and inventions by NUS researchers into useful products and services. This is done by licensing these technologies to existing companies and / or new startups. At the same time, ILO facilitates the University's collaboration with industry through industry-sponsored research and joint research & development projects.
ILO has been appointed as the TTO (technology transfer office) by Singapore’s lead funding agency, the National Research Foundation, to manage the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre. The SMART Centre is the R&D outfit of MIT located in Singapore. ILO continues to be a key partner of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) in promoting technology transfer in Asia and the Pacific through development of training programmes for technology transfer professionals in Asia
