About Us

Our Mission

Universities have long been recognised as institutions with key missions in education, research and the dissemination of knowledge. However, as global economies become increasingly knowledge-driven, universities in the 21st century must move beyond their traditional academic missions and adopt an entrepreneurial orientation in order to become growth engines for their countries.

In support of Singapore’s transformation into a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy, NUS is making its transition into a world-class knowledge organisation, striving for excellence in education and research, while at the same time infusing an entrepreneurial spirit and cultivating a global outlook within our community.

To this end, NUS Enterprise was established as a University-level cluster to provide an enterprise dimension to NUS teaching and research involving the University’s students, staff and alumni. The functions of the Enterprise Cluster complement the academic cluster of the University to nurture talents with an entrepreneurial and global mindset. NUS Enterprise, promotes the spirit of innovation and enterprise through Experiential Education, Industry Engagement and Partnerships and Entrepreneurship Support.

Our Strategy

The ETP strategy is to foster the development of an entrepreneurial culture in the NUS community through teaching, training, internship, and the nurturing of startup enterprises, while leveraging on the NUS assets of highly talented people, expertise in the diverse fields and intellectual property. This is done through three main divisions in ETP – NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC), Industry Liaison Office (ILO) and NUS Entrepreneurship Centre (NEC), which are supported by Corporate Services and the Business units – NUS Extension (NEX), NUS Press and NUS Technology Holdings Pte Ltd (NTH).

Our Organisation Structure

Experiential Education
NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) offers an experiential education programme that provides NUS students opportunities to immerse themselves in the strategic and operational activities of high-tech startups located in leading entrepreneurial and academic hubs around the world. Their hands-on internship experiences contribute to the development of an entrepreneurial NUS community with a global mindset.

NUS Entrepreneurship Centre (NEC) offers several innovative entrepreneurship educational programmes in Singapore that emphasise experiential learning and practical involvement in the entrepreneurial process. These include the annual Start-Up@Singapore National Business Plan Competition, workshops on New Venture Creation for technical professionals, and a new innovative Local Enterprise Achiever Development (iLEAD) programme for NUS students.

Industry Engagement & Partnerships
The Industry Liaison Office (ILO) serves as a channel through which companies, research organisations and government agencies can access the knowledge, expertise and technologies residing in the University. ILO protects and manages NUS’ intellectual property. It helps to translate new discoveries and innovations by NUS researchers into useful products and services by licensing these technologies for commercial applications.

Entrepreneurship Support
NUS Entrepreneurship Centre (NEC) conducts a wide range of activities to promote interest in entrepreneurship within the NUS community, and nurtures entrepreneurial startups by NUS professors, students and alumni. These include monthly techno-venture forums, a business incubator programme, a number of seed funding schemes for early-stage startups, a CEO mentoring programme, and other support services such as networking with venture capitalists and angel investors.
