Ageing well in a time of Longevity

Monday, 20 April 2009

Venue:

University Hall Auditorium
University Hall, Lee Kong Chian Wing, Level 2

About Conference:

This meeting reflected the understanding that clinical researchers’ approach “ageing” as a problem to be solved by better treatment of disease. In very sharp contrast, the political and economic perspective is that the exploding cost of hospitalization and care of our ageing population is an overwhelming burden upon society that simply cannot be met without discovering new ways of keeping aged individuals healthy and productive. The disjoint between the two views is striking and offers NUS a unique challenge: meeting this and drawing together both approaches is one of the overarching goals of VISA.

The program included talks from members of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, the Asia Research Institute, the faculties of Engineering and Arts and Social Science, the Schools of Design and Environment and of Medicine.

A new small grant scheme targeted at meeting the challenges of changing cross disciplinary focus was announced during the conference.
