Research Computing Resources and Services

1. University High-Performance Computing (HPC) Resources

The University HPC resources managed by the Computer Center include compute clusters with high-bandwidth low latency interconnection, high-performance storage space, Compute Grid (NUS Grid), scientific modeling and visualization system (MobileVisLab), application software and tools. The resources are open for use by all NUS staff and students. Please refer to the following links for more details of the HPC resources and access instructions.

Besides the shared resources, Computer Centre is providing the following on-demand utility based services to researchers who need dedicated HPC resources for their research simulation.

2. HPC Pay-Per-Use Service

  • The service – Dedicated cluster with up to 192 CPU cores interconnected by high-performance InfiniBand network can be provisioned within a business day.
  • The cost – The full charging rate is $0.045/core/hour and the partial rate is $0.015/core/hour. Please contact the HPC team at hpccloud@nus.edu.sg to find out which rate is applicable to you.

3. HPC Condominium Service

  • The service – Computer Centre will operate and maintain the HPC cluster purchased from Computer Centre for a period of 5 years.
  • The cost – The full charging rate is $24,000/12-core node and the partial rate is $8,000/12-node. Please contact the HPC team at hpccloud@nus.edu.sg to find out which rate is applicable to you.

4. On-Demand Storage for Research

  • The service – Up to 10TB network-based storage can be provisioned within a business day.
  • The cost – The full charging rate is $32.22/TB/month and the partial rate is $11/TB/month. Please contact the HPC team at hpccloud@nus.edu.sg to find out which rate is applicable to you.

5. Writing a Grant Proposal – You Need Cost Estimates?

With the rapid growth in computational based research at NUS, researchers are often required to work out the cost of their computing requirements whenever they submit a research proposal or apply for a research grant. This cost estimation guide hopes to offer some tips on what to consider when estimating the cost of research computing.
