Directed Call for Proposals to Establish a Grid-Connected ESS Test-Bed in Singapore

Energy Market Authority (EMA), on behalf of the Energy Storage Programme Office (ESPO) and in collaboration with SP PowerAssets Limited (SPPA) and SP CAPITAL Limited (SP CAPITAL), has launched the Energy Storage Systems Test-Bed (ESS Test-Bed) - Request for Proposals.

The Energy Storage Programme (ESP) was established to support the development and integration of large scale, cost-effective energy storage systems (ESS) that enhance the overall stability and resilience of Singapore’s power system. Large-scale storage systems will facilitate a more widespread deployment of intermittent solar PV energy, as they make a significant contribution to system stability.

The ESP invites the submission of Full Proposals to deploy a grid-connected ESS testbed in Singapore with SPPA

This RFP is open to Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), public sector agencies, not-for-profit organisations and private sector companies. Collaborations among the above organisations are encouraged.

Proposals must be submitted using the RITA online application form at https://rita.nrf.gov.sg/ENIC/ESS_TB2016/default.aspx.
Full proposal submission period: 12 May 2016 10:00 AM to 03 Aug 2016 12:00 PM*
(*Note: With the exception of programs which do not require host institution endorsement such as the NRF Fellowships, the proposal has to be duly endorsed by the respective Host Institution before the Close Date)

Directed Call for Research Proposals in Increasing Energy Efficiency of Data Centres in Singapore

The Green Data Centre Programme Office (GDCPO) has launched the Grant Call for Research Proposals in Increasing Energy Efficiency of Data Centres in Singapore, which focuses on overcoming the critical barriers, both local and global, that constrain the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the Singapore data centre industry.

Proposals shall include (but is not limited to) the following 3 research areas:

  • Area 1: Cost effective systems that operate reliably in the temperature range of 40 – 45°C in high humidity environments to reduce the cost of cooling. This represents an improvement over ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) 2011 thermal guidelines that recommend 18 – 27°C.
  • Area 2: Innovations in hardware and software implementations for data centres infrastructure components (servers, storage, networks, etc.). The data centre systems should aim to reduce the IT energy consumption, thereby improving the overall PUE.
  • Area 3: Understanding and resolving the complex interactions associated with various components of a data centre (design, space, layout, facility, sensing, monitoring, etc.). The resultant solution should aim to reduce the overall energy consumption for the data centres.

This call for proposals has two stages:

  1. White Paper Stage;
  2. Full Proposal Stage

This call is open to Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), public sector agencies, not-for-profit research entities, companies and companies-affiliated research entities based in Singapore.

The closing date for submission of White Papers through the RITA system https://rita.nrf.gov.sg/ENIC/gdcr/default.aspx is 18 Nov 2015 12:00 PM
