NUS has over 160 researchers from
various disciplines conducting
energy-related research. Current
research studies range from climate change, energy
efficiency management, energy
storage and exploration of new
energy sources. The convergence of
these specializations creates a
dynamic multi-disciplinary
environment in which our researchers
shine.
NUS energy experts work across
disciplines and faculties, and
closely with government institutions
and industry. In addition to their
individual work in NUS faculties,
many of our experts are also
involved in research with following
specialized Institutes established
within the university.
NUS Environmental Research
Institute (NERI)
NERI coordinates, integrates and
facilitates research and educational
initiatives across NUS, building on
the university’s capabilities to
create initiatives that address
critical environmental topics. NERI
coordinates focused recruitment of
eminent scholars, faculty, fellows
and graduate students to expand NUS’
capabilities in key environmental
areas. Through interactive pursuit
of excellence in initiatives across
the University, NERI conducts
cutting-edge research in a range of
high impact areas from fundamental
to applied levels. For more
information on NERI, go to

Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI)
TMSI is a centre of excellence for
research, development and
consultancy in tropical marine and
environmental science within the
National University of Singapore.
Its major research areas are Marine
Environmental Management; Underwater
Remote Sensing and Oceanography.
With its multi-disciplinary research
laboratories and active
international links, TMSI manages
projects in Physical Oceanography,
Acoustics, Marine Biology, Marine
Mammals, Biofuels, Water Resources
and Climate Change. Currently
located on the NUS campus, TMSI also
has coastal facilities on St. John's
Island which greatly extend its
research and teaching capabilities.
For more information on TMSI, go to

Solar Energy Research Institute of
Singapore (SERIS)
SERIS is Singapore's national
institute for applied solar energy
research. The institute is sponsored
by the National University of Singapore (NUS)
and Singapore's National Research Foundation (NRF)
through the Singapore Economic Development Board
(EDB).
SERIS conducts industry-oriented
research and development as well as
use-inspired basic research in the
field of solar energy conversion.
SERIS is globally active but focuses
on technologies and services for
tropical regions, in particular for
Singapore, South- and South-East
Asia. SERIS has cleanrooms,
laboratories and offices on the NUS
campus, with additional facilities
in the International Business Park.
For more information on SERIS, go to
www.seris.nus.edu.sg/.
Energy Studies Institute (ESI)
Energy Studies Institute (ESI) is a
multi-disciplinary, autonomous
research institute established
within the National University of
Singapore in November 2007. It is a
leading institute for strategic
research and a global thought leader
in energy. ESI provides independent,
quality and timely policy research
and analysis of regional and global
energy trends and issues in energy
economics, security and the
environment. For more information on
ESI, go to
