FAQs on Ceremonies





Is it possible to know the schedule of ceremonies earlier?
We will only be able to assign specific degrees to specific days when the graduation numbers are more confirmed. Usually, this will be some time in April at the earliest.

What will the ceremonies be like?
The nature of the ceremonies every year is similar. You may view the ceremonies of the previous year here.

What should Graduates do during the Ceremony?

What time must graduates reach University Cultural Centre for the ceremony?
Seating time for graduates and guests commences one hour prior to the official start time of each ceremony.

To ensure that the ceremony starts on time, all graduates must be seated inside the UCC Hall at 10.00 am for the First Ceremony (which will be held on Monday 5 July 2010 at 11 am), and at 9.40 am/2.40 pm/7.40 pm for the remaining morning/ afternoon/ evening ceremonies, respectively. The seat number for graduates is printed on the Graduate Attendance Card.

What is the use of the Graduate Attendance Card ? What should I do if I lose it?
The Graduate Attendance Card is important as it serves the following purposes:
  • As an entry pass to the Commencement celebrations; and
  • As a "key" for the Dean/Head to read out your name and prizes as you walk up the stage (the card has a barcode with this information).

  • If unfortunately, you have lost your Attendance Card,
  • you must produce some form of photo identification (e.g. NRIC or Passport) to verify your identity, and
  • make sure that you collect a replacement card from the "Graduate Marshals" inside the University Cultural Centre Auditorium before the start of the ceremony.

Does NUS take photographs of the graduates on stage?
Yes, we have authorized photographers who will take photos of the graduates as they are presented on stage. You may place your order with them at their booth which is located at the University Cultural Centre Foyer area.

Can I buy the ceremonies DVD from NUS?
We are not planning to produce DVDs or VCDs of the ceremonies for sale. However, as we will be having a live web cast of each ceremony, you may download these thereafter at this website.

Is there any special arrangement for elderly parents/guests in wheelchairs?

Can the University assist in visa applications for my parents/guests to come to Singapore?
We can issue a letter stating that your parents/guests are invited to attend the Commencement ceremony. However, we will not be able to do the actual visa application. If you need this letter, please forward your request to
