Test Drive Windows 8
This service is only available to NUS Staff. Internet Explorer is preferred.
-
Before launching Windows 8, please read the “Windows 8 Getting Started” guide to familiarise yourself with the new User Interface (UI).
-
As we have limited Virtual Desktop Interfaces (VDI) available, please try again later if you cannot login in the first instance. If your session remains idle after logging in, it will be disconnected for others waiting to try Windows 8.
To Launch Windows 8
Run "Internet Explorer" on your computer.
- Click on the win8-office2010 icon.

- Click “Connect” if you see this screen.

- Click “Yes” if this message appears.
- Enter “nusstf\xxxxxx” where “xxxxxx” is your NUSNET ID, followed by your password. Click on the “Sign in” button.
- You will see the Windows 8 Start Screen.
- After you had successfully launched Windows 8, move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen and right-click on it. Click on the “All apps” icon which now appears at the bottom right of your screen.
- You will see all the application icons such as Outlook, Excel, Acrobat etc. If you want to create a short cut for Outlook on the Start Screen showing Live Tiles or the Desktop taskbar, hover the cursor over the Outlook icon, right-click on it and select “Pin to Start” or “Pin to taskbar” accordingly.

Back at the Windows 8 Start Screen, click on Outlook to launch it. It will take a while for your Outlook profile configurations to be completed. You are now ready to use Outlook.
You can create shortcuts for other applications too.
Please do not store any working files in the Windows 8 VDI session. We will periodically refresh the VDI and any files/settings stored in the VDI session will be permanently deleted.
