On 6 June 2007 noon, Roland was doing his regular lunch-time
swim at the SRC swimming pool. After swimming a few
laps, he suddenly experienced difficulties in the water.
A colleague who was swimming with
him noticed this and immediately sounded a call for help. One of
the lifeguards together with this colleague pulled Roland out of
the water and started applying Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR) on him. The doctor from the University Health and Wellness
Centre was also alerted and he arrived shortly to administer
medical aid to him before the arrival of the ambulance and
paramedics.
Roland was conveyed to
National University Hospital where he later passed away at
around 2.50pm.
