When I think of something to say about Roland, many things come to my mind. But most vividly until today, would have been the few encounters that have left lasting memories I had of Roland.

My first response with Roland when he walked into Computer Centre, NUS back in 1999 the very first few days at work was: "huh, so you are Roland? I have heard about people mentioning you." His typical reply which many of us in Computer Centre today are so familiar with, especially when each time you go near him: "Ya, what's up?"

When Roland became a 1st time father, some years ago, I greeted him again: "Welcome to  Parent hood!" as a mother of 2 teenaged sons myself, obviously I was very happy for him. His response then was:

"Seeing a child born and the process of bearing it was the most amazing experience one could enjoy going through" - I was wide-eyed, and with sudden flash "wow! What an amazing father!" Roland's deep affection and the love for his 2 sons have always been lingering in my ears over the years even to this moment. To his beloved wife, Hui Ching, you have a wonderful husband, and a very loving father to the kids.

Colleagues at Computer Centre and vendors would always remember Roland's reputable burst of witty response over issues while at work, or at meetings. We have never failed to enjoy the off-beat occasional giggles, his easy going style, his passion at work, and all these are now our fond memories of Roland, our talented colleague, and a friend.

Roland was a gift from God to us but now he is a gift to God.

I would like to share a piece of Poem of Life (by unknown author):

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay ...

Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey is quicker,
For some the journey is slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

Always remembered by:
SweeWah
and colleagues
