We understand that some of you might have other problems with this new anti-spoofing system, which is not foolproof for authentic messages, in fact, the system is unlikely to have any built-in intelligence whatsoever that it cannot distinguish between a bonafide mailing list posting versus a real spoof.

  1. Why am I receiving the notification when send to @nus.edu.sg email address?
  2. Does it mean that my email was not deliver if I received the notification?
  3. Can I still send to Yahoo! Groups using my NUS email account?
  4. Can I auto-forward my personal email from external to my NUS email?

1. Why am I receiving the notification when send to @nus.edu.sg email address?

You will receive the notification if your email client has not been configured to use smtp.nus.edu.sg. Please refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/comcen/nusmail/pop3.html for the configuration steps.

2. Does it mean that my email was not deliver if I received the notification?

No. The email will be delivered to the recipient's Spam folder.

3. Can I still send to Yahoo! Groups using my NUS email account?

Yahoo! Groups work by imposing as another person to mass distribute the mail to its groups. With the NUS Anti-Spoofing, the only restriction lies on the sender. As long as the sender sends as @nus.edu.sg, then all the recipient of @nus.edu.sg will be delivered to the recipient’s Spam folder.

e.g. A Yahoo! Group called interest@groups.yahoo.com. The members are :

abc@yahoo.com

me@hotmail.com

littlejohn@nus.edu.sg

robinhood@nus.edu.sg

  1. If abc@yahoo.com or me@hotmail.com sends a mail to interest@groups.yahoo.com, everyone would receive the mail.

  2. If littlejohn@nus.edu.sg or robinhood@nus.edu.sg sends a mail to interest@groups.yahoo.com, ONLY littlejohn@nus.edu.sg and robinhood@nus.edu.sg will be delivered to the recipient’s SPAM folder. The rest will still receive the mail in their inbox.

4. Can I auto-forward my personal email from external to my NUS email?

To avoid the risks of emails being delivered to the recipient’s SPAM folder, you may wish to disable your email forwarding from the external email account to NUS Email, and access your respective account directly. For more details on how it will affect you, refer to services affected.
