Security Bulletin: April Fool's Day virus
A new variant of WORM_Downad (aka Conficker) is expected to propagate on 1st April 2009. This worm exploits the weakness of Microsoft Windows Operating System including Windows Vista. Our Corporate Antivirus Software - Trend Micro, will detect this variant as WORM_Downad.KK with pattern file 5.885.00 onwards.
To protect your computer against this worm attack, we urge you to proactively do the following by 27 March 2009:
(A) Anti-virus Update
- If your desktop PC/notebook/Windows server is installed with Trend Micro OfficeScan, update it to the latest version:
- Right click on OfficeScan icon
shown at the bottom right corner of the monitor screen. - Select Update Now.
- If your desktop PC/notebook/Windows server is not protected with any anti-virus software, please install the Trend Micro OfficeScan by following the steps:
- Click Start -> All Programs -> Software Catalogue -> Click Software Catalogue Client 1.2.
- On the left panel, select Office.
- Select Trend OfficeScan Anti-Virus to download the software.
(If the Software Catalogue Client 1.2 is not installed on your PC, you can install it by: Click Start -> All Programs -> NUSNET -> Software Catalogue -> Click Download Software Catalogue Client Setup.)
- If your PC is protected using other anti-virus software, please ensure it is of the latest version.
(B) Windows Operating System Update
- Update your Windows Operating System with the latest patches:
- Launch Internet Explorer -> Click Tools -> select Windows Update.
