Richard N. Katz, vice president of EDUCAUSE and founding director of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) was invited to NUS on 16 September 2009 to give a talk on “The Tower and The Cloud”.   

The talk examines the evolution of higher education and the evolution of ICT. It suggests a number of important trends associated with each, and with these trends, there are contradictions and possibilities. The audience were asked to reflect on how the evolving network of new capabilities might envelop and alter the university and the higher education industry, and conversely, how the modern, place bound university might use the network cloud to alter and enlarge the university's footprint locally, nationally, and even globally?

A Preview into Windows Mobile 6.5 0S

On 24 Sept 2009, NUS staff who are using Windows Mobile device to synchronise their NUS emails were invited to a preview of the new generation of Windows Mobile operating system (OS), i.e. “Windows Mobile 6.5”. This was made possible because Computer Centre was invited by Microsoft to participate in the invitation-only Windows Mobile 6.5 Early Access program (EAP).
On 1 Sept 2009, Microsoft announced that Windows phones with 6.5 OS would be launched on 6 Oct 2009. See announcement. On 6 Oct 2009, Microsoft unveiled the New Windows Phones with 6.5 OS Worldwide. See announcement.
