NUS Internet Highway Widened

"Trusted" Online Community
 — Chew-Goh Swee Wah

Making more friends, writing blogs, uploading videos and photos freely online is nothing new.

How about one with identity and trust not found in many external social networking environments?

Jointly launched in 2007 with CIT, the NUS Online Community may not be as attractive and features-rich as Facebook or mySpace, but, it serves to bring community value to our students, staff and alumni, congregating in the online space.

What’s available are myWorkSpace, blogs, wikis, contact lists, photo vaults, forums, online classified ads, interest group websites and others.  The highlight of all is the web hosting services for student clubs and societies, community websites, and alumni groups.  They are way cheaper (even if you exceed our free space offer) than the annual hosting fee that you pay to external organization or if you were maintaining it yourself.  Student clubs and societies alike will find this service particularly attractive, and can just focus on content development and update, while we maintain server stability.

So far, 13 Alumni Chapter sites, 13 Alumni Reunion sites, 1514 personal websites, 250 community sites and 15 hosted sites have been established since its launch.  Why not give it a go at this downturn period where every dollar matters.
