Then comes the popular Google Maps service, efficient and smoothing in look, and packed with optional overlay of satellite images. Mouse around Google Maps gives a unique 'mash up' experience. It enables anyone the ability to create his own mapping service or application through an open interface that builds on top of Googles Maps. The result will be a collaborative mapping service with comprehensive database of location on Earth someday ( Wikimapia has illustrated the concept well). Many Google Maps-based mashup services have since been sprung out, with the likes of eRoutePlanner, Street Sine, SkyPigeon and GoThere. Some of them even look alike, while trying to differentiate themselves by offering route planning etc. With so many choices to choose from, finding your way around Singapore couldn't be better! |
