1. Sign-In

Once you have installed and logged in, Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 should automatically sign in upon your next login to NUSNET.

To access Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2, just double-click on the icon on the system tray.

You would be greeted by the following screen which is virtually blank if you are a new user.


2. Adding/Creating Groups

You can create groups in Office Communicator 2007 R2 to group contacts that you are going to add later on. To create groups, right-click on All Contacts -> select Create New Group. You will then be prompted to enter the name of the group.

 

To add existing groups such as NUSmail Distribution Lists, search for the distribution list or part of the name. You will be prompted with a list of entries. Simply right-click the correct one and select Add to contact list.


3. Adding Contacts?

To add individual contacts, search for the userid or part of their name. You will be prompted with a list of entries. Simply right-click the correct one and select the group you want to add the contact to.


4. Start a conversation/send an instant message

To have a conversation with another party, on your contact list, double-click the name of the person you want to contact. Your conversation window will open as shown.

Type in your message at the lower part of the window. Office Communicator 2007 R2 features Emoticons which is a graphical representation of your smileys. An example is illustrated below. Just insert the relevant emoticons when necessary.


5. Multi-party IM

You can invite more people into the current conversation. Just click on Invite, Invite a contact.. and select the other person.


6. Audio/video conference

You can have a audio and video conference with another party. To initiate, just right-click on the contact and select Start a video call. An invitation will be sent to the other party.

You may have video-conferencing with multi-parties, however the video will only display the active speaker at any one time.


7. To send a file

Double-click on the name of the person and click on Send a File.... Then select the necessary file.


8. Change your online status?

Office Communicator 2007 R2 lets you see at a glance whether your contacts are online and available. Likewise, your contacts can see when you are online and available.

You can force your status to appear as any option. For example you can appear to be offline even while working online at your desk.

Click on the status bar then click on one of the options as shown.



9. Archive all instant messages

Office Communicator 2007 R2 allows you to archive all instant messages in the Conversation History folder in Outlook. To enable it, press <Alt>, select Tools, Options, and select Save my instant message conversations in the Outlook Conversation History folder.


10. Change level of access

Office Communicator 2007 R2 allows you to set different level of access on your contacts so that they have restricted access to certain information about you.

To define the level of access, simply right-click the contact and select Change level of access. The below diagram would be self-explanatory.
