Test Your Microphone, Speaker and Video Camera

1. Before initiating a video session via Live Meeting or Office Communicator, it would be good to test your microphone, speaker and video camera before-hand.

2. Ensure that your speaker, microphone and video camera are physically connected to your workstation. For most desktops and laptops, the microphone and speakers are already built-in.

3. To start, login to Office Communicator, depress the Alt key; and select Tools, Setup Audio and Video.

   

4. Microphone

   Speak a few sentences towards the microphone and observe the green bar in the indicator. Adjust the sliding bar so that the volume of your normal speaking voice can reach the yellow region in the indicator. Click Next to continue.

   

5. Speaker

   Click on Test and adjust the volume control slider so that you can hear the music clip clearly. Click Next to continue.

   

6. Video camera

   Aim the video camera at any object, you should see a video of that object in the video panel. Select the correct hardware profile in the drop-down box if the default one is not correct.

   

7. Click Finish and you are done!
