- NUS Computer Centre was awarded the ISO 9001 certification.
- Complement the secured Plug-n-Play (SPnP) network with wireless access in strategic locations in July 1999.
- NUS Internet bandwidth was increased to 8 Megabit per second (Mbps).
- NUS quality living and working efficiency were enhanced with more new online application like hall admission, student career and employment service, online posting and review of staff suggestion and a database on academic interaction.
- Latest series of high performance HP 9000 servers were set up to streamline the existing operations servers.
- All academic staff and student cluster PCs were upgraded to the latest Pentium II configurations to facilitate high performance usage of IT for teaching, research and learning amongst the staff & students.
- Enhanced global connectivity and reachability with SingAREN (Singapore Advanced Research and Education Network) becoming the first research and education network in Singapore linking to US Internet 2 member universities on both the vBNS and Abilene networks [more].
- Established the first SingAREN (Singapore Advanced Research & Education Network) connection to Korea at 2 Mbps as part of the APII (Asia Pacific Information Infrastructure) initiative.
