- NUS acquired a 12 MIPs IBM 3081 GX computer to replace the 3033N computer.
- NUS computing environment had come of age. A wide spectrum of software were available on both the mainframe and PC platforms.

- The mainframe computing power was more than doubled with the installation of a second mainframe computer, an IBM 3033N. Personal computers were first introduced to the academic community.
