The Restoration
Conservators, architects, archaeologists and art historians conducted extensive research on the structure and site prior to restoration. Both the exterior of NUS Baba House and its interior spaces were restored as closely as possible to the original architectural intent.

Research, conservation, restoration and recording of the site's historical fabric were undertaken in partnership with the NUS Department of Architecture and Urban Redevelopment Authority. Archaeologists from the NUS Southeast Asian Studies Programme conducted excavations in sections of the house and found artifacts left by the early occupants. Art historians examined the building's rich ornamentations, translating calligraphic phrases and interpreting motifs adorning the walls, doors and windows.
