Exam Structure
The examination involves sixteen instruments – Erhu, Dizi, Guzheng, Pipa, Yangqin, Ruan, Liuqin, Sheng, Zhongyin Sheng, Suona, Zhongyin Suona, Hulusi, Guan, Cello, Double Bass and Percussion (Percussion can be implemented as part of school's enrichment courses).
Basic level (Grade 1 - 3)
- One set study piece incorporating scales
- Two solo music pieces, to be selected from a list of four
Intermediate level (Grade 4 - 6)
- One set study piece incorporating scales
- Two solo music pieces, to be selected from a list of four
Advanced level (Grade 7 - 8)
- One set study piece incorporating scales
- Sight-reading (one piece)
- Two solo music pieces, to be selected from a list of four
- Aural
- Listening and identification of harmonic intervals up to one octave will be tested
- Candidates are allowed to answer in either English or Chinese
Diploma
- Three music pieces selected from a list of nine
Diploma Examination
The Diploma examination will be graded by two examiners.
Candidate should hold at least NUS Chinese Instrumental Examination Grade 7 and above or equivalent qualification and to;
- Attach equivalent qualification certified by a music schools, OR
- Submit a VCD recording of one performance piece.
The above has to be submitted together with the registration form to NUS Centre For the Arts before the closing date for registration.
Diploma Examination repertoire consists of 3 music pieces selected from a list of 9.
CFA will not provide examination scores for Diploma Examination. Students are to use their own book and exam scores with the reference to the version and composer stated.
