Mr Wong Ah Long is a role model for the NUS alumni – a respected captain of industry with an abiding passion for his alma mater.
Mr Wong graduated from the University of Singapore with an Honours degree in Applied Chemistry in 1969 and a Master's in Business Administration in 1972.
He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Star Investment and Development, a member of an international group specialising in large-scale real estate investments in Asia. Prior to this, as the Chief Executive Officer of Suntec City Development, Singapore's largest private development, he put his astute management and marketing skills to good use in successfully transforming and positioning Suntec City as the premier business and retail shopping mall centre in Singapore .
Despite his very hectic work schedules, Mr Wong continues to give generously of his time and energy to support the university in its quest to be a global knowledge enterprise. Presently, he serves as the Deputy Chairman of both the NUS Council as well as the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies Board of Trustees. He also contributes as a member of the Advisory Board of the NUS Business School as well as the International Resource Panel of the Business Alumni Association.
Mr Wong has also devoted much effort in promoting stronger ties between the alumni and the university community. He chaired the committee which successfully raised funds from amongst the NUS community, to establish the Kiang Ai Kim Scholarship Fund.
In recognition of Mr Wong's contributions and sustained service to his alma mater and the alumni community, the University is pleased to present him an inaugural NUS Distinguished Alumni Service Award.
