Effective and Successful Oral Presentation
(For Executive and Professional, MA Grade 1 & 2, LT Grade 1 to 3 and SpA Grade 1 & 2 staff members)
The workshop aims to enhance participants’ oral presentation skills in the workplace. It helps participants to be more aware of effective oral presentation techniques. Participants are required to give a 5-minute presentation on a topic related to their work plus 2 minutes for Q & A.
During the workshop, participants will learn about:
- preparing for a successful presentation through identifying the topic and purpose, analyzing the audience and occasion, gathering information and organizing the points, and structuring the presentation effectively
- capitalizing on their resources for a winning delivery i.e. voice and verbal characteristics, non-verbal communication, visual aids – design and technique as well as overcoming fear and building confidence
- giving memorable presentations by making the material easy to understand, making the points easy to remember, fielding questions confidently and convincingly, and speaking impromptu
- reviewing their presentations and recognising their strengths and specific areas for improvement through self and peer evaluation
Fostering Cross-Cultural Communication In The Workplace
(For Executive, Professional, MA Grade 1 to 2, LT Grade 1 to 3 and SpA Grade 1 to 2 staff members)
This workshop introduces participants to basic concepts and principles of cross-cultural communication. It addresses commonly encountered workplace situations where there could be possibilities of misunderstanding due to cross-cultural communication. By the end of the workshop, participants will develop greater sensitivity for mutual understanding for successful cross-cultural communication.
During the workshop, participants will learn about:
- the key concepts in cross-cultural communication
- the importance of cross-cultural communication sensitivities, the context of communication, the perception of individual in relation to group, the fluidity of time and importance of hierarchy, rules and laws as well as tolerance towards uncertainty
- possible areas of misunderstanding which could arise from social customs, concepts of space and time, roles and status, body language, legal and ethical behaviours such as gift giving in business, and etiquette for dining
- the influence of language on cross-cultural communication through observable patterns, rules of speaking, conversation involvement, directness and indirectness, and norms of politeness
- tips and guidelines on avoiding conflicts
- practical workplace application to achieve mutual understanding
Customer-focused Business Correspondence
(For Executive and Professional Grade 4 to 6, MA Grade 1 & 2, LT Grade 1 to 3, and SpA Grade 1 & 2 staff members)
The workshop aims to help participants write reader-centred emails and other forms of business correspondence that will result in a win-win situation.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to:
- deal with negative correspondence
- avoid writing correspondence that has a negative effect
- make complaints and deal with complaints
- write customer-focused emails and letters
Writing Effective Business Correspondence

This workshop aims to enhance participants’ business correspondence skills to help them communicate clearly, concisely, accurately and effectively with the desired impact. It focuses on three types of business correspondence: emails, letters and minutes of meetings.
During the workshop, participants will learn about:
- writing essentials such as the reader-centred vs. writer-centred approach, communicating the message and different types of message
- the 7Cs of effective writing i.e. writing courteous, clear, concise, concrete, coherent, correct and complete sentences, paragraphs and messages
- writing effective emails using a suitable structure and format
- writing effective letters using an appropriate structure and format
- recording accurate minutes of meetings with appropriate format and language, preparing the notice and agenda of meetings
Writing Effective Business Correspondence
(For MA Grade 3 to 5, LT Grade 4 & 5 and SpA Grade 3 to 6 staff members)
This workshop aims to enhance participants’ business correspondence skills in communicating clearly, concisely, accurately and effectively and with the desired impact. It focuses on three types of business correspondence: email, letter and minutes of meetings.
During the workshop, participants will learn about:
- writing essentials i.e. understand the reader-centred vs. writer-centred approach, communicating the message, and different types of message
- the 7Cs of effective communication through practice in writing clear, concise, coherent and complete sentences, paragraphs and messages
- writing effective emails using a suitable format and structure
- writing effective letters using an appropriate format and structure
- recording accurate minutes of meetings with appropriate format and language, preparing the notice and agenda of meetings
Workplace Grammar and Language (A Refresher Course)
(For Executive and Professional, MA Grade 1-2, LT Grade 1-3 and SpA Grade 1-2 staff members)
This workshop aims to give participants an overview and a review of grammar and language for effective written workplace communication.
During the workshop, participants will:
- use different grammatical structures such as tenses and verbs, subject-verb agreement, phrases and clauses
- produce and edit texts for clarity, conciseness and correctness
- distinguish the forms and functions of workplace culture and communication through written and oral practice.
Workplace Grammar and Language (Elementary-Intermediate)
(For Administrative, Professional and Division 1 Non-Academic staff; and MA Grade 1 & 2, LT Grade 1 to 3 and SpA Grade 1 & 2)
The workshop is aimed at equipping learners with language and writing competencies for effective workplace communication.
During the workshop, participants will learn about:
- writing accurately and concisely using grammar structures which include tenses and verbs, subject-verb agreement, phrases and causes
- communicative functions, forms and culture
- workplace application which comprises oral practice and written exercises
Workplace Grammar and Language (Advanced)
(For Administrative & Professional; and MA Grade 1 & 2, LT Grade 1 to 3 and SpA Grade 1 & 2)
