IS2101 - Business and Technical Communication

Business and Technical Communication is a customised core module for School of Computing students. The module is designed to prepare students for the professional communication needs of the workplace in a globalised world.

It is a 48-hour module taught over 12 weeks with a 1-hour lecture and a 3-hour tutorial each week.

Objectives

By the end of the module, students will be able to:

  • write persuasive and effective business letters and email messages;
  • write well-structured and winning proposals;
  • present IT ideas, products, services clearly and convincingly;
  • participate confidently at meetings and interviews involving IT-related matters; and
  • be more interculturally sensitive when working with international clients and colleagues.

Assessment

IS2101 is a 100% Continuous Assessment module.

Prerequisites

If students are required to take ES1000, Basic English, and/or ES1102, English for Academic Purposes, they must complete those modules before taking this course.
