Journal of Reflections on English Language Teaching

Journal of Reflections on English Language Teaching or RELT is an international-refereed publication of the Centre for English Language Communication, National University of Singapore. It aims to explore the range of issues of current concern to those who teach and do research in the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) or as a Second Language (ESL) in Asia and other regions.

Areas/topics of interest

RELT is particularly interested in studies with sound theoretical frameworks and clear pedagogical implications and/or applications in the following areas: new materials or materials preparation; classroom practice or activities that are innovative and motivating; testing techniques and/or evaluation; needs assessment; curriculum design and development and learning/teaching strategies with the application of IT; impact of language/educational policies on classroom practice; second language writing and reading; cultural dimensions of language teaching and learning.

Call for original manuscripts

The editors will be pleased to consider for publication original manuscripts that deal with any of this broad range of themes, especially those that concern EFL and/or ESL teachers and learners from Asia . Papers should not have been published previously, or submitted elsewhere simultaneously.

Short essays/articles on teaching tips, informal classroom observations, or practical classroom research will also be considered for the section called Voices from the Classroom .

International presence

RELThas a strong International Editorial Advisory Board composed of established and well-known scholars who together have a broad range of scholarship, expertise and experience in areas related to English language teaching. Moreover, a hard copy of every RELT issue is deposited in the library holdings of CiLT (Centre for information on Language Teaching) in London. Copies are also available in key libraries with language teaching-related resources.

Notes for contributors

  • Full-length articles should not exceed 7,000 words and should not be less than 4,000 words.
  • Articles for Voices from the Classroom should be around 2000 words or not more than 4,000 words.
  • An abstract of about 200-250 words should be included.
  • Use A4 paper, New Times Roman font and type size 12, double-spacing.
  • In the text, please cite references using the author's last name and year of publication. If quotations are used, please include the page numbers. The reference list should follow the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). The articles in the recent volume follow these guidelines.
  • Authors should include a cover page with the author's name, full title of the paper, mailing address, and if available, email address. The author's name should not appear elsewhere in the article.
  • The editors reserve the right to make minor changes within articles prior to publication.
  • Where applicable, a soft copy of the article should be enclosed with the hard copy in Word format.
