General Information
This module is open only to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Music programme from AY 2009/10 onwards. Students who score Band 4 in the YSTCM Placement Test or students who have passed EAP-M1 are required to read this module.
This course is in part fulfillment of the University's English language requirements. Students assigned to this course must pass it in order to graduate.
Objective
The course aims to help students function more effectively in English, both academically and professionally.
Format
This module is offered only to YSTCM students with the aims of helping them write expository namely argumentative essays through good organization and clarity of expression, develop an awareness of grammar rules, comprehend music-related expository texts through reading and vocabulary building strategies, summarize and synthesize reading texts for writing, practice critical review and critique of issues, and build confidence in expressing ideas to an audience. Tasks are discipline specific which include research about composers, making and substantiating point of view, reviewing and critiquing concerts and performances.
Content and reading texts are selected in collaboration with music specialists to ensure relevance.
